Easy for George to Make Headlines
Debbie Kennedy, Barkhamsted

In Susan Mahoney's letter [George Wilbur Cares About the People, October 11] she condemned David Cappabianca and praised George Wilbur for a job well done! She said we need George because "unlike his opponent for state representative, David Cappabianca … he will fight for the people, not big business."

It was easy for George to make headlines on this NU matter and glorify himself. There were other towns represented at that meeting with NU officials. Every town's first selectman/ woman was at that meeting, as well as the Mayor of Torrington, and the only one who received quotes and headlines was George! Does that not tell anyone how self-serving he really is? He's not serving the people or taking on big business; he's grabbing headlines and making his name known. Unlike his opponent!

When a storm hits and the power goes out, NU doesn't punish or reward customers for how promptly they pay their bills. It is a numbers game. I know firsthand how dedicated and hard working each and every employee at NU is. I know how they call in outside help and get power restored as soon as possible.

Colebrook has been without power before, and it has never made headlines like it is now. Why? Because George is running for office. When you all walk into that voting booth on election day, think about who belongs in there and the character of the person whose lever you're pulling!
