Hussein Must Go!
By Michael W. Goetz, Winsted
I was compelled to write this after hearing that many people in this country are opposed to any action against Iraq. I believe, for several reasons, it is imperative we overthrow the Iraqi regime as soon as possible.
One reason is very clear. After the first Gulf War, as part of the cease-fire agreement, the UN ordered Saddam Hussein to eliminate all weapons of mass destruction. According to UN weapon inspectors, he ultimately did this. As soon as the UN withdrew the inspectors, however, Saddam must have begun at once to restock his weapon supplies. While our nation was engulfed by the corruption of the Clinton Administration, Saddam was free to stockpile his arsenal and even test these weapons on his own people.
Another reason is that Hussein has for ten years told the UN and us that he does not have biological or nuclear weapons. Well, then he should answer this: Why is he so determined to keep the inspectors out of Iraq? Why will he let them have access only to certain locations, but not to any of his so-called presidential palaces? It's very obvious that he is hiding his weapons within these palaces. What will it take for the UN and the anti-war people of this country to see that the only way to stop this tyrant is by force?
Now there is new information that Iraq has harbored and funded several different groups of terrorists including al Qaeda. This has really upset me.
In the 1930s, the United States followed an isolationist policy, and we thought it was none of our business what happened in Europe. It was only after Japan attacked Pearl Harbor and Hitler had slaughtered millions of people that we finally entered as a participant in WWII. Let's not wait until this tyrant has the power to kill millions with the touch of a button. I don't know about you, but I support President Bush's resolution to go to war with Iraq, and I believe this nation should stand by him all the way.
