This Week on Main Street
By Fred Newman and Martha Rein, Winsted
On Friday morning, October 18, Mr. Fred Newman from the Friends of Main Street met with Kevin Smith of Waters Construction and Al Smith from the Town of Winchester to get the latest update on the Main Street Enhancement Project.
The Smiths report that the last catch basin was installed on October 18, and that they will now start converting all the manholes. Electrical conduit will be installed during the week of October 21. They said, "It's not only lonely over here—now it’s cold and lonely." The weather has been a factor over the past week; recent rain resulted in the loss of a day of work last week and another this week. The sidewalks will be poured by the end of October, and "fill-in" asphalt will be set up to the new curbing. All four traffic lanes are expected to be open again by the end of the month. The project is still on schedule.
The crew’s weekly batch of home-baked cookies was delivered later in the afternoon.
