How Stupid Does He Think We Are?
By Matthew Valenti, New Hartford
Governor Rowland and his supporters must think that everyone in the state of Connecticut is gullible, naive, and stupid. Nothing else can explain the actions of this reckless Connecticut leader.
Governor Rowland promised to eradicate the state income tax within five years. He's no closer to eliminating the tax than when he started eight years ago. Rowland is spending high on the hog with all this money. He was even going to go into the sports business when he unsuccessfully tried to lure the New England Patriots with our hard earned tax dollars—to the tune of some $400 million. His actions were indefensible and irresponsible at best. Thank goodness Bob Kraft had more sense than to team up with our vain and flamboyant governor.
The nursing strike was another Rowland faux pas. Instead of giving the hard-working caregivers more money, Governor Rowland spent a million dollars a day to bring outside workers into the state. Another Rowland blunder that taxpayers absorbed.
And Rowland gave a $30,000 raise last year to his budget chief. This position already pays in excess of $100,000, and this raise resulted in a 27% increase to the taxpayers of Connecticut. Parallel that with the average worker, who is lucky if they earn the equivalent of the raise alone in a whole year.
Meanwhile, the state workers’ retirement fund as well as the teachers’ retirement fund are billions of dollars in the red because of underfunding during good and healthy economic times. Now, due to mismanagement, state government is facing a huge budget deficit. The Rowland political ads are laughable. I certainly haven't seen the Connecticut Mr. Rowland shows in his commercials.
Connecticut families cannot afford Mr. Rowland's antics any longer. They need a person in the governor’s office who they can afford. Vote the Curry team on November 5.
