Friday, November 15

COLEBROOK: Senior Center activities—lunch at noon (call 738-9521 by noon Thursday for reservations).

LITCHFIELD: Community Center activities—yoga with Fran Oneglia ($7) at 9 a.m.; Senior exercise class ($5) from 10:30-11:30 a.m.; Offenbach music lecture with Jeffery Engel at 1 p.m.; creative writing course from 1-3 p.m.; teen program for students in grades 7-9 ($5) from 7-10 p.m.

LITCHFIELD: Litchfield County Jewish Community Center hosts a community-wide Shabbat Dinner at 6:30 p.m., preceded by Shabbat services at 6 p.m. Enjoy an evening out with fine food and wine, pleasant company and inspirational conversation. The topic of the evening, led by Rabbi Joseph Eisenbach, is "Shabbos—an island in time." There will be a special children’s program, and babysitting is available. Cost for dinner is $18 adults, $12 children (ages 5-12), $50 family; RSVP by calling 860-567-3609.

NEW HARTFORD: A Community Clothing Swap will be held at North Congregational Church from 3-7 p.m. Bring your gently used clothing and shoes to trade for items swapped in by others. RIVERTON: Riverton Grange holds an open meeting at the Grange Hall beginning with a potluck supper at 6:30 p.m. Following the meal, a program entitled "A Bowl of Cherries" will be presented by lecturer Dorothy O’Connor. All Grangers and friends of the Grange are urged to attend and enjoy the harvest meal.

TORRINGTON: Sullivan Senior Center activities—foot care clinic (call 379-8561); Seniorcize at 9 a.m.; Italian class at 9:15 a.m.; line dancing at 1:30 p.m.; 9/5 tournament at 1:45 p.m.

TORRINGTON: St. Francis Women’s Club holds a Penny Auction at St. Francis School, 360 Prospect St.; doors open at 6 p.m. and auction begins at 7 p.m. There will be a kids’ table, raffle table and refreshments; children are welcome.

WINSTED: First Church of Winsted hosts a Support Group at 6 p.m. for the parents of children who think or know their child may be using or abusing drugs. For more info call 738-2306.

LITCHFIELD: Community Center activities—Litchfield Area Business Association Silent Auction ($10 in advance, $15 at door, public welcome) from 6-9 p.m.

TORRINGTON: Concordia Lodge #20 Sons of Italy, 34 Center St. holds early bingo at 1 p.m. and regular bingo at 2 p.m., with progressive jackpot and refreshments. Doors open at 11 a.m.

TORRINGTON: St. Francis School, 360 Prospect St. holds a Polish Dinner from 4-8 p.m. in the cafeteria. Menu includes kielbasa, sauerkraut, pierogies, homemade stuffed cabbage, desserts and beverages. Cost is $7 adults, $5 children and seniors; please reserve your ticket by calling the school office at 489-4177.

GOSHEN: The Catholic Inter-Parish Adult Initiative sponsors a program on Exploring Funeral Planning at 2 p.m. in the Church Hall at St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 71 North St. (Route 63, north of the rotary). Fr. Stephen Sledesky, Associate Pastor of Sacred Heart and St. Peter parishes in Torrington, will discuss ways to enhance the funeral experience, including making sure loved ones know our wishes for funeral arrangements, selection of music, readings and prayers for Mass. People of all faith traditions are welcome. There is no admission charge, and refreshments will be served.

NORTHFIELD: Northfield Volunteer Fire Company, 12 Main St. holds a Breakfast from 7:30-11 a.m. The regular menu includes all the pancakes you can eat, sausage, coffee and juice for $4; French toast, eggs and home fries will also be available. LITCHFIELD: Community Center activities—Battle of the Bands for students in grades 9-12 from 7-11 p.m.

GREAT BARRINGTON: The Interfaith Committee and Clergy of South Berkshire County hosts an Interfaith Community Thanksgiving Service at 3 p.m. at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church on Main St. There will be participants from up to 15 houses of worship, including those from Christian, Bahai, Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist and Catholic backgrounds. The speaker will be Father Walter Dziordz, MIC, Provincial of the Marian Fathers in Stockbridge.
