Canton Land Trust News

This year the Canton Land Trust is initiating a new way for kids to experience the CLT properties and learn about the cool things to be found there. For a $5 dollar membership, kids will be given a Trailblazers workbook created by cartoonist and Canton resident Brad Gilchrist, which contains maps and descriptions of the properties along with some fun self-guided activities to get you started. The first meeting of the Trailblazers was held last month at the Swan property and was conducted by retired professor Fred Swan; it was titled "What is living in and around the water?" The next meeting is scheduled for Sunday, December 15 at the Mary Conklin Sanctuary at 144 Indian Hill Rd. This meeting will introduce kids to orienteering—a sort of high-tech (if you call a compass high-tech) scavenger hunt; for exact times and more info, call Mary Ellen Mullins.

Canton Land Trust friends and helpers will be gathering on the first Wednesday of each month for hikes, trail clearing and other projects. The group will meet at 10 a.m., with soup and sandwiches to follow at noon. Call either Betty at 693-2074, or Rhonda at 693-3988 for more info and locations.
