Anonymous Donor Supports Northwestern Connecticut

The Torrington Area Foundation for Public Giving has received a third anonymous fund from a remarkably generous resident of the area. With a great desire to support the area but no desire for recognition, this donor is determined to strengthen nonprofits so that they may provide their needed services, uninterrupted, for area residents. The donor will use the Foundation and this fund for that purpose.

This same anonymous donor previously created two permanent funds at the Foundation. The first fund he started was an unrestricted fund with all granting decisions left to the discretion of the Foundation’s board. His second fund was a designated fund, created to benefit Charlotte Hungerford Hospital.

In addition to having faith in the Foundation for the management of these funds, the donor is also interested in assuring that grants from his funds are utilized in the manner intended. Since the Foundation has a Grants Coordinator, Mary Loyer, he has that assurance. Mary visits each charity that receives a grant and does a complete evaluation on the use of the grant and the success of the organization. The information she obtains not only is useful to a donor, but also is vital information for the Foundation’s staff and board.

The donor hopes to add to each of his funds every year, thereby building their power to do good. Rather than just looking back at past accomplishments, this donor is a visionary, looking forward to things that can yet be done for the community. The positive impact of these funds is a legacy that will be felt throughout northwest Connecticut for generations to come.
