Thanks and Relevance
By Bob Davidson, Canton
Thanks to Canton High Students

The efforts of many adults resulted in a wonderful program recently for the veterans living in Canton. We tend to expect such results from our experienced, dedicated adults. What we don't always expect is the unselfish support of such programs by the young adults in our school system.

Those students who greeted us, provided name tags, served coffee and, in general, served as gracious hosts deserve our thanks and praise. The students had an attitude! The attitude of servants. They appeared to grasp the degree of sacrifice made by the veterans at the service.

Thank you, students, and congratulations to the parents and teachers who have given you such a fine start on life's journey.

Ralph and Tom Don't Get It

Ralph Nader and Torn Daschle are now giving various excuses for the election returns that made it clear the country is going Republican.

Nader seems to have concluded that most liberal Democrats supported the Bush Administration position on homeland security and our national position on Iraq because of lack of courage and fear of being accused of being unpatriotic. This lack of respect for anyone or any business with whom he disagrees is typical Naderism. It has apparently not occurred to him that those Democrats who voted with the Bush Administration on these issues just might have shown great courage and integrity by voting for what they believed to be in our national interest—politics be damned.

Poor old defeated Tom Daschle either has never learned to be gracious in defeat or is close to a nervous breakdown, or both. Tom can't understand why he was accused of being an obstructionist. Perhaps someone might point out to him that legislation critical to our national security, appointment of judges and other important national business only moved through and was approved by the Senate after he lost control.

Lacking any sound arguments to attack our war on terror, Tom thinks that because we have not found Osama bin Laden "we haven't made real progress." I am surely glad we think we found Hitler's body. Otherwise, Tom would have continued WWII.

Tom has implied that radio commentators and religious fundamentalism are responsible for all his problems. Dear Tom, please consider that the American electorate has judged you and your political party and found it lacking in relevance today.
