How to Fill the School Board Vacancy
By Joe Cadrain, Winsted

All efforts to have the vacancy on the Winchester Board of Education filled by the ballot process have been rejected. Board members are elected by ballot, board officers are elected by ballot, and it stands to reason that board vacancies should be filled by ballot. Balloting allows the voter to cast a ballot for their choice without revealing who they voted for or why.

Should the ballots not produce a winner, balloting continues until a winner is determined. This could be brief or it could go on for a long time, but a winner evolves with the process.

It’s time for the Board of Education fill the vacancy so that the board can be more efficient.
