The Klezical Tradition Comes to New Hartford

The Klezical Tradition, a klezmer band, will make an appearance on Saturday, January 18 at 8 p.m. at the North Congregational Church in New Hartford.

Eastern European klezmer music evokes an era of Victrolas and pickle barrels. High spirits and historical authenticity distinguish this vibrant ensemble's performances. The trio of players includes music director Adrianne Greenbaum on flute and keyboard, Cookie Segelstein on violin, and Walter Mamlok on clarinet.

Adrianne Greenbaum is a highly acclaimed performer throughout the East Coast, known equally for her performances of klezmer and classical music. As a klezmer, she is on the faculty at KlezKamp and has performed at the International Jewish Festival in Amsterdam and the NYC Jewish Museum. She is solo flutist with the New Haven Symphony, Orchestra New England and the Wall Street Chamber Players, and is currently Associate Professor of flute at Mount Holyoke College.

Violinist "Cookie" Segelstein teaches klezmer fiddle at Living Traditions' KlezKamp and has been klezmer fiddler and Holocaust educator-in-residence at the University of Oregon in Eugene. Clarinetist Walter Mamlok performs with the Manchester Symphony, the Capitol City Wind Ensemble, the Local 400 Pops Band, and conducts his own 18-piece swing band, "Strictly Swing."

"Adventurous, virtuosic, sensitive, and schooled musicians make their music joyously dance alive!" says Murry Sidlin, conductor of the Oregon Symphony. "One of the finest klezmer bands on the East Coast, the Klezical Tradition provides the ultimate in Jewish musical entertainment. They are a group that must not be missed!" says Neil Gelerter of Teikyo Post College.

Tickets $15 in advance, or $20 at the door; half-price student tickets are available at the Licia & Mason Beekley Community Library in New Hartford. For more info call 860-379-7235.
