Torrington Area Foundation Approves Grants
The board of directors of the Torrington Area Foundation for Public Giving has approved final quarter grants for 2002 totaling $99,542 to the following area nonprofit organizations:
Litchfield Historical Society—$2,500 in support of a museum exhibit of modern design in Litchfield; Explorations, Inc.—$1,000 toward the purchase of various technology for this charter high school; Beardsley & Memorial Library—$2,442 toward the purchase of tables, chairs and equipment; Tri-State Public Communications, Inc.—$1,000 to purchase office equipment for community access programming.
Housatonic Valley and Wamogo Future Farmers of America—$4,000 in support of a building at the Goshen Fairgrounds to be shared by both FFA chapters; Susan B. Anthony Project, Inc.—$1,000 toward tickets for children in the community to attend the Festival of the Performing Arts at the Warner Theatre; P.A.L.S. at Hinsdale School—$1,000 toward the purchase of equipment supporting family activities.
Northwest Amateur Boxing—$1,000 toward the purchase and replacement of equipment; Trinity Arts Series—$5,000 toward the purchase of a piano; Geer Adult Day Center—$3,000 to pay for area families to attend the center; Christian Counseling Connection, Inc.—$1,000 toward the purchase of software and office equipment for ongoing addiction therapy program; Catholic Family Services—$2,500 toward converting a porch into a therapy room and for furniture.
University of Connecticut Torrington Campus—$1,000 to pay for the filming of a lecture series; Torrington Area Council of Churches Emergency Fund—$2,100 toward replenishing their funds; Licia & Mason Beekley Community Library—$1,000 in support of cultural programs for children.
Also approved was $750 from the Borghesi Family Fund to the LARC Capital Campaign; and, from the Local Area Fund: $50,000 to the Jane Coffin Childs Fund for Medical Research in New Haven; $10,000 to the Norfolk Library; and $10,000 to the Norfolk Land Trust.
Torrington Area Foundation for Public Giving is the community foundation located in and serving northwestern Connecticut as a collection of funds from local donors supporting nonprofit organizations and scholarships within the towns of Barkhamsted, Colebrook, Cornwall, Falls Village, Goshen, Hartland, Harwinton, Litchfield, New Hartford, Norfolk, Torrington and Winsted.
