Anti-War Protestors Strong and Growing
By Irene Landry, Litchfield
I would like it to be known that instead of the reported 30,000 anti-war protestors in Washington, DC on Saturday, January 18, the number was much closer to 200,000 or more. I know because I and 46 other members of the Winsted Area Peace Action group and the Litchfield IMAGINE Peace group were in attendance.
This rally was the largest demonstration against war with Iraq since the beginning of Bush's insanity toward Iraq several months ago. Coordinated rallies also occurred in San Francisco (200,000 in attendance), Portland (20,000), Tucson (5,000) and Albuquerque (4,000), along with other state and local rallies and demonstrations in more than 30 countries around the world, where hundred of thousands more gathered.
My experience in Washington, DC affirms my belief that most Americans are not in favor of this unilateral, pre-emptive, first-attack war that will lead to greater hatred of America and Americans by peoples around the world, and dire consequences on American soil.
All peace-loving, patriotic Americans are invited to attend the weekly peace vigils on Sundays from noon-1 p.m. at East End Park in Winsted and on the Green in Litchfield.
