Winsted Elks #844 held their annual Hoop Shoot on Saturday, January 11 at Pearson Middle School in Winsted. Students from Batcheller, Hinsdale, St. Anthony's and Pearson Middle School competed in the event.
The following students placed in their age groups:
• boys age 8-9 — (1) Drew McCarthy of Batcheller; (2) Robert Crossman of Batcheller.
• girls age 8-9 — (1) Courtney Hoxie of Batcheller; (2) Jenny Fritch of Batcheller, and Samantha Kurlick of Batcheller.

• boys age 10-11 — (1) Alec Brochu of Batcheller; (2) Alex Pullium of St. Anthony's.
• girls age 10-11 — (1) Rebecca Alexander of Pearson; (2) Jackie Vaccari of Hinsdale.
• boys age 12-13 — (1) Enrique Montaz of Pearson; (2) Jeff Albaniese of Pearson, and James Bunel of St. Anthony’s.
• girls age 12-13 — (1) Sara Vaccari of St. Anthony's; (2) Stephanie Jones of St. Anthony's.
On Sunday, January 19 all first place winners from Winsted competed with students from the Elks Northwest District, which also includes Bristol, Meriden, Naugatuck, New Britain, Southington, Torrington and Waterbury. Drew McCarthy and Rebecca Alexander placed first in their age groups and will represent the Northwest District at the State Finals on February 15. Enrique Montaz placed third, with Alec Brochu placing fourth. Congratulations to all the Winsted competitors. We are proud of all of them!
