TORRINGTON: Litchfield County Association for Retarded Citizens (LARC) hosts a Penny Auction at First United Methodist Church, 21 Fern Drive; doors open at 6 p.m. for viewing and bidding, and the drawing begins promptly at 7 p.m. The penny auction features new items, gift certificates, and a special children’s table; tickets are 50 for $2. A raffle table will feature specialty items; tickets are 3 for $1. Refreshments and baked goods will also be available. TORRINGTON: Holy Trinity Church, 64 Berry St. (one block west of Migeon Ave.) holds a Penny Auction at 7 p.m. There will be a 50/50 raffle, door prizes, and refreshments including hot dogs, snacks, beverages and desserts. HARWINTON: Harwinton Congregational Church, Route 4 and North Rd. holds its 41st annual Chicken Barbeque with seatings at 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 7 p.m.; take-out will be available starting at 4:45 p.m. Menu includes 1/2 barbequed chicken, baked potato, salad, roll, and home-baked pies for dessert. Cost is $11 adults, $10 seniors (over age 65); $6 children (under 12); for reservations call 485-1931.

LITCHFIELD: Community Center activities—table tennis club for ages 10-16 (call 567-8302 to register) from 9 a.m.-noon; Warner Theatre drama group from 1-4 p.m.

NEW HARTFORD: South End Fire Dept. holds a Spaghetti Dinner from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the firehouse on Antolini Drive (off Route 202). Cost is $6 adults, $3 children; tickets will be available at the door, and walk-ins are welcome.

NORTHFIELD: Northfield Junior Fire Company holds a Spaghetti Supper at the Beacon Grange, 670 Northfield Rd. (Route 254) from 4-8 p.m. Menu includes spaghetti with sauce and meatballs, salad, bread, beverage and dessert. CANAAN: Pack 22 Cub Scouts hold a Pancake Breakfast to benefit the family of Lorin Platt from 8:30-11 a.m. at the Pilgrim House. Lorin, who is 37 years old, lives in Canaan with his wife Meghan and their two sons. He was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in 2001; the leukemia has been in remission for over a year, but Lorin has recently relapsed. He is currently receiving chemotherapy and is in need of a bone marrow transplant. Cost of breakfast is $5 adults, $3 children; a prize drawing will also be offered.
