Fly Tiers Roundtable in Cornwall

Housatonic Outfitters has been hosting a Fly Tiers Roundtable for the past three months in their store, located just south of the junction of Route 7 and Route 4 in Cornwall Bridge.
This is a group of local fly fisherman who enjoy making their own trout flies. Sessions are held every Sunday and are attended by experts and beginners alike. They gather to exchange information about fly tying techniques and to enjoy the free food prepared by the store owner, Harold McMillan. Anyone can attend to watch, participate, or just enjoy the food!
Fly tying is the art of wrapping small bits of fur and feathers on hooks to imitate natural aquatic insects to be used for fly fishing. There are nearly as many reasons for fisherman to tie their own flies as there are fly tiers. Some tie because they enjoy the art form, others find the sport of fly fishing to be more enjoyable when fish are deceived by one of their own creations, and others believe that they can create a better imitation than what is commercially available.
The Tiers Roundtable has proven to be a great way to cure cabin fever, meet other enthusiasts, and to prepare for the upcoming fishing season. | | Ryan Kilduff |
