Karate Group Honors Award Winners

The Tang Soo Do Masters Alliance announced that Edmund Sullivan is the recipient of its Codes and Tenets Award for 2002. This honor is not based solely upon achievement and mastery of the martial arts, but rather, finds its roots in our values and traits as martial artists. His or her peers choose the recipient of this award, which was presented to Mr. Sullivan at the Tang Soo Do Masters Alliance Awards Banquet held at the Pontelandolfo Club in Waterbury on January 11.
Mr. Sullivan first became involved with martial arts in 1974 in the State Police Academy as part of his self-defense training. After graduation, Ed regrets that he did not follow up with his training. However, in July of 1999, his daughter, Shannon, who was five at the time, began training at the Charland Institute. Subsequently, Mr. Sullivan became reacquainted with karate in September of that year and received his first degree black belt in Tang Soo Do on November 8, 2002. Ed lives with his wife Barbara and daughter Shannon in Waterbury. He is self-employed as a motor vehicle crash reconstructor.
The Tang Soo Do Masters Alliance also honored its 2002 Award Winners as a result of their performance at the Alliance’s Interclub Challenges, and presented its Student of the Year Awards. Students of the Year include Evan Betts and Mark Favoccia of Beacon Falls Karate Club; Marika DiCarlo of Bunker Hill Karate Club; of Bryan Sembersky and Peter Dauten of Litchfield Karate Club; John Cordone, Lauren Elias, Alexis Cordone and Amanda Cordone of Plymouth Karate Club; George Smith and James Byrne of Thomaston Karate Club; Connor Rollins and Robert Breakell of Morris Karate Club; and Juliana Longo, Cory Lutkus and Nuno Dossantos of the Charland Institute of Karate.
