Airman Robert Meo to Be Honored by Bantam Post 44

When the Tyler-Seward-Kubish Post 44 American Legion assembles at the All Wars Memorial on Route 202 in Bantam on Saturday, March 1, they will pay tribute to Korean War U.S. Air Force Airman 2nd Class Robert Meo as the March 2003 Veteran of the Month. Meo’s flag will fly until April 5, when it will be retired in Post 44’s 10 a.m. monthly honoring service.

Robert Meo was born on October 28, 1929 in Oceanside, NY, the son of Samuel and Mildred Meo. In 1948, soon after graduating from high school, Meo enlisted in the United States Air Force and served until August 1955, when he was honorably discharged.

He moved to Danbury, where he was employed for many years as an automobile mechanic and as a route salesman for the Shop Rite Corporation. He died on April 11, 2001 and is buried in the Wooster Cemetery in Danbury. He is survived by his wife, Sharon Seaver Meo; a son, Robert; two daughters, Nancy Henry and Barbara Kish; and four grandchildren.

The Veteran of the Month program honors deceased veterans, those POWs and MIAs still unaccounted for, and certain Merchant Mariners who served in battle areas during World II. If the deceased's burial flag is not available, the Post will provide a flag for the honoring service and the period of honoring. Information for honoring a veteran may be obtained by calling Art St. John at 860-567-0607. Honorings are now being scheduled for the latter part 2003 and 2004.
