Miss Greater Torrington Pageant

On Saturday, March 8, a Miss Greater Torrington will be chosen at the Nutmeg Conservatory for the Arts, 58 Main St. in downtown Torrington. The Conservatory is acting as host and sponsor for the event, which will for the first time in many years give a young woman from greater Torrington an opportunity to compete in the Miss Connecticut Pageant. This is an official preliminary to the Miss America Pageant, held in Atlantic City. This means that one of our local young ladies could become Miss America!

The Torrington Foundation for Public Giving is providing a scholarship of $1,500 to be given to the winner and first runner-up this year. This scholarship will be given directly to the school of the contestant's choice. The contestants will compete in talent, interview and issue of concern, evening wear and swimsuit.

Greg O'Brien will be master of ceremonies for the event, which begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 and are available by calling Nutmeg's box office at 860-482-4413; tickets should be purchased in advance, since seating is limited. For more info about the pageant, call 860-489-9183.
