Cabaret Pops Concert in Torrington
Baritone Mark McNally will be guest soloist at the Cabaret Pops Concert presented by the Torrington Civic Symphony Orchestra on Saturday, March 15. Conductor Charles Fidlar will lead the orchestra in a program of selections from Broadway musicals, movie themes and popular orchestra works. The concert starts at 8 p.m. at Cornucopia Banquet Hall in Torrington.
Barkhamsted resident Mark McNally has appeared with the Symphony on various occasions as a vocal soloist, principal bassoonist and conductor. A multi-talented performer, he has also appeared with the Hartford, Farmington Valley, Bristol, Manchester and West Hartford Symphonies. He has appeared in major roles with Simsbury Light Opera, Manchester Musical Players, Producing Guild, Connecticut Opera, Connecticut Concert Opera, Norwalk Crystal Theater Consortium, and Connecticut Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Middletown.
Conductor Charles Fidlar, a Norfolk resident, is a graduate of Cornell University and the New England Conservatory. His doctoral studies were done at Stanford University. Fidlar was formerly assistant conductor of the Grammy-winning San Francisco Symphony Chorus, assistant conductor of the Rhode Island Philharmonic, and artistic director of the Hartford Theater in Maryland, where he produced and staged opera. A specialist in American song, he has performed at Carnegie Hall and has recorded for Columbia and Decca. In addition to conducting the Torrington Civic Symphony Orchestra, he is conductor of the Connecticut Yankee Chorale and is choral director at Northwestern Regional High School.
