"Faces of Unionville" Exhibit
The Unionville Museum's latest exhibit, "Faces of Unionville," featuring photographic images of everyday life in Unionville taken during a one-week time span, is now open. Conceived and created by Rebecca White, a senior at Farmington High School and the Greater Hartford Academy of Arts, the exhibit provides a glimpse of life as it was in Unionville from May 26 to June 1, 2002. During this time local residents were invited to photograph the people and places which collectively make up the "Face" of Unionville.
While a single exhibit of this nature cannot show every face of interest or capture every building, every function, or every person, it can provide a representative flavor. "Faces of Unionville" conveys a sense of everyday life in the Village of Unionville.
Through the photographs of the annual Memorial Day parade one senses the feeling of tradition and local pride. Images of residents at work provide a timeless connection with generations of previous residents who earned their living in this community. From the elderly gentleman mowing his lawn to the young children walking to Union School laden with backpacks to the camaraderie of the hikers picnicking after a walk through Suburban Park, these images capture forever those timeless events that are often overlooked in the rush of everyday modern life.
Exhibit curator Rebecca White is also a Girl Scout from Troop 6098 and is a candidate for the Gold Award, the highest rank in the Girl Scout system. This exhibit fulfills one of her requirements for the Gold Award. Additionally, she has completed the required number of badges and has dedicated a significant amount of time to community service.
The Unionville Museum is located at 15 School St. in Unionville. Admission is free. The Museum is open on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays from 2-4 p.m.; group visits at other times can be arranged by calling 860-673-1787.
