Continuing Our Opposition to War
By Barbara Braunstein, Winsted

I have been pondering a statement made by our President recently. He said that listening to what peace activists have to say is like listening to focus groups to make policy. Now, I'm not sure how many people are in focus groups, but I imagine there are not as many as the millions of people who have been traveling to Washington, DC, New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco, etc. to demonstrate for peace. And these demonstrations are continuing to happen around the country, every week.

In fact, there are peace vigils throughout the state of Connecticut on a weekly basis. Here in the Northwest Corner on Saturdays, there are vigils in Granby and Salisbury. On Sundays there are vigils in Bethlehem, Canton, and on the green in Winsted at noon. For more information on activities go to <www.ctunitedforpeace.org>.

We invite people of like mind to join us at these vigils to continue to show our President that there is overwhelming opposition to a preemptive strike in Iraq. If the President should initiate such an action, Winsted Area Peace Action will hold a candlelight vigil at East End Park in Winsted at 7 p.m. that night, and will continue vigiling on Sundays at noon to show our continued opposition to this war. For more information please call Barbara at 860-379-5262, or Ann at 860-379-7858.
