Creating Jobs in Immigration Law
By Michael T. Emmons, Longwood, FL
In his story "Imported Cheap Labor Displacing American Professionals," which appeared in The Voice on February 14, Martin Gregor hit the nail on the head. But what I've done down here in Florida is really open the can of worms. WKMG CBS Channel 6 recently did a four-day report on the abuses of these corporate subsidies. Terri Spitz and Steven Cooper of the "Problem Solvers" did a superb job. You can download the all of the newscasts off my webserver at <www.hannatroup.com:81/~mike/>.
We Americans (over 20 of us) were mandated by management to train our foreign replacement workers. Our replacements are L1 visa holders from India who were sold off as "consultants" to our American company. Under the L1 visa, companies can import as many "replacement workers" as they want—there are no caps. With the INS "blanket petition" they can literally import planeloads of replacements. It is an utter disgrace that our government has sold our souls for corporate campaign funds.
For six solid months I have begged and pleaded with our senators and representatives, but they just turn a blind eye to the problem. It's not about me. I'm the lucky one of the bunch; I found another job because of "networking." Most of my ex-coworkers are still unemployed while immigrants from India live in Lake Mary, FL. Their families live there too. I've seen documents that list their children, who are of school age. So, if these children are in Lake Mary, FL, then the property taxes of the unemployed Americans will pay for the education of their replacements' children.
And our Congress voted for this? It's dumbfounding. Why in the world would any student pick a field like computer science or engineering when our own government has no regard for Americans working in these fields? But hey, those political crooks know what they are doing: they created a new industry for their fellow lawyers in "immigration law."
