We Need Lou Daniels as Canton’s CEO

By Samuel S. Humphrey, Canton

I am endorsing Republican Lou Daniels for First Selectman of Canton in the coming election. Lou is very qualified for this by experience, education and training. He has a degree in Finance and Management from Providence College. He is Senior Vice President of a Fortune 500 company. He has lived in town over fifteen years, and has been active in town affairs and government for most of them. He has been a selectman for ten years. He has been chairman of the Park and Recreation Commission. He has been active in youth sports and the PTA.

Most important, Lou understands the requirement for the First Selectman to be the CEO of the town. He may not have understood this under our new charter ten years ago, when I supported Kathy Corcum—who did understand after serving under four previous first selectmen—but he does now. After ten years as a selectman under Kathy, he knows that the job is too big for the chief administrative officer. He understands that the voters of Canton want a CEO who is responsible to them and who understands the town. He has arranged to spend every Tuesday and Friday in the town hall as Kathy did, although he may keep different hours to give voters time to consult him in the latter part of the day.

So I have concluded that we need Lou Daniels, with his skills, energies and understanding, for our First Selectman.
