Making the Right Choices for Our Community

By Paul Summers, Torrington

My name is Paul Summers, and I am running for the Torrington City Council on the Democratic slate. I am writing to let you know who I am and why I am running for City Council.

I have lived in this area all my life. I grew up in Harwinton, and my parents still live there. My father, Bob, worked at the Torrington YMCA during the 1950s, and my mother, Ruth, was a pharmacist in this area for many years. I graduated from the University of Connecticut and then went on to law school at Western New England College in Springfield, MA. After graduation and admittance to the Connecticut bar, I practiced law with Attorney Al Mencuccini in Torrington for ten years. Since last year I have worked as a public defender at Bantam Superior Court.

I have also been involved with many community organizations in Torrington. I have volunteered my time for the United Way, Northwest YMCA and Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. I was also involved for many years with the Torrington Main Street Action Team, a volunteer group dedicated to the revitalization of downtown Torrington. For the past year I have served as an alternate member of the Torrington Planning and Zoning Commission.

The next City Council will face many important and difficult issues ranging from economic development to improving our recreational opportunities for our youth. To meet this challenge we need to elect people to our City Council who will make the right choices for our community. The Democratic slate for City Council has the right people for this important job. I believe that my experience, open mind and common sense will aid me if elected to the City Council. I ask for your vote on November 6.
