An Effective Advocate for Canton

By John H. Burns, Canton

Canton is fortunate to have Mary Tomolonius as a candidate for First Selectman. Mary is a long-time Canton resident who has lived here for many years with her husband of 27 years, Gary. They have raised three children, all of whom have flourished in the Canton school system. For the past fifteen years, Mary has been the owner of a small, successful business. She owns several rental properties. As a taxpayer, parent and businesswoman, she understands the need for fiscal prudence and recognizes that many residents are on fixed incomes. At the same time, she is sensitive to the needs of our families and mindful that our children are the community's most important asset.

Mary is past president of the Chamber of Commerce and a member of its board of directors. She has chaired Sam Collins Day since its inception, and served as president of the Farmington Valley Visitors Association and past president of the Canton Junior High PTO. She has actively supported the development of the Canton Commerce Park, the Canton Public Library and Community Center, and additional athletic fields for our children. She voted for additional hours for our Senior Coordinator and Dial-A-Ride, strongly supported construction of the Mills Pond Recreation Center, and vigorously supported and voted for firemen initiatives, being mindful of the outstanding contribution of our firemen to the town.

The foregoing is only a partial list of Mary's contributions. Whatever she has done, she has always done well. She is a proven leader who has established herself as a tireless contributor to Canton over the past years as a member of our Board of Selectman. She is a consensus builder who has shown she can work with both parties for the best interests of Canton.

Mary has made it clear that should she be elected First Selectman, the duties of that position will be her first priority, and that she will bring all her energy and knowledge to the position. Mary is a respectful listener and a tireless and effective advocate for Canton. She deserves our support.
