Modern Man at University of Hartford

The musical comedy show of Modern Man comes to Wilde Auditorium on the campus of the University of Hartford on Friday, November 16 at 7:30 p.m. in a concert to benefit Habitat for Humanity.

Modern Man's trio of New York-based songwriters—David Buskin, George Wurzbach and Rob Carlson—arrives with a warning label to fans: "Don't go hear these guys if you wear a pacemaker." Tom Rush says: "If you see only 73 comedy-folk acts this year, make Modern Man one of them." Allan Pepper of The Bottom Line in New York City states: "I’ve got to tell you that they're very funny, very musical, and that audiences cheer."

David Buskin's tunes enjoy a huge audience, as he has filled the airwaves with jingles for Burger King, NBC, JC Penney, Jif, Goodyear, the United States Postal Service, and numerous others, all of which contributed to his winning a CLIO award. Buskin is known by folk fans for his previous performances with Robin Batteau when, for many years, "Buskin & Batteau" was a New England favorite. David has also written songs recorded by Judy Collins; Tom Rush; Peter, Paul and Mary; Roberta Flack; Johnny Matthis and others.

Brooklyn native George Wurzbach's singer-songwriter talents earned him the 1995 New Folk Award at the Kerrville Folk Festival, and in 1997 he was selected to perform in the New Artists Showcase at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival. More recently, he has performed on stage with Tom Paxton, Peter Yarrow and Oscar Brand.

Rob Carlson is a writer, producer and performer and has a wide reputation as a composer of song parodies for the American Comedy Network. His social and political humor and commentary are aired every other week on more than 60 radio stations in his Ramblin' Bob show. Carlson earned his early fans when he teamed with John Galimor and released Peaceable Kingdom, a critical success recorded on Polydor Records in 1975.

The group's hallmark humor weaves themes ranging from God to ESPN to Viagra to Godzilla. Tickets are $15; for more info call 860-768-4228 or 800-274-8587
