Honor and Respect for Every Person
In an apparent attempt to trap me, Matthew P. Valenti, in his November 2 letter "Helping Teachers for the Future," repeats his request that I state what I do for a living. Even though my means of income is irrelevant to the crisis in education, I will provide him with an answer. At the same time, I assume he already knows the answer. It seems to me that Mr. Valenti has been snooping around or has received some information that he thinks will bring me embarrassment. I believe it is Mr. Valenti's face that will turn red.

Keystone Yankees
I enjoyed very much Ben Warner's article about the Connecticut men who served with Pennsylvania's 28th Infantry Division in the Korean War era [Swamp Yankees in the Pennsylvania National Guard, November 9]. Mr. Warner served with the 109th Infantry, the old 13th Pennsylvania. This is interesting because another regiment in the Pennsylvania National Guard, the 109th Field Artillery, was constituted in 1775 as the 24th Regiment in the Connecticut Militia.

Big Box — Big Emotions
It would be nice and I hope it will eventually be possible for the citizens of Canton to make a decision on commercial development with their heads. I apparently annoyed at least one Voice reader by having the audacity of expressing my views about Route 44 in Canton [Bad Movie in Canton, by Raymond C. Squier, October 26].

He Doesn't Get It
After 27 years of service, Matthew P. Valenti still just does not get it. Mr. Valenti, I would like you to make a fist and lightly tap your noggin and say to yourself, "I shall receive ten times and listen." In your letter [Helping Teachers for the Future, November 2] you state that the Connecticut Department of Education has made a huge mistake by not considering increases in teacher salaries to help cure shortages, when in fact they made the right call. If towns get into a competition against each other in offering higher salaries, there will be no winners, and only losers—and they will be the taxpayers.

Elks Thank Car Show Sponsors
Six years ago the Winsted Elks Lodge started a car show after the Lions Club no longer wanted to run this successful event. We thought it might be a good fundraiser to have our own show—but it turned out to be not so easy. As advertising, printing, entertainment and awards cost more than you can charge for car classes while trying to stay competitive with other shows, we found it very difficult to make any money, let alone meet expenses.

Seniors' Open House a Success
On November 4 the New Hartford Seniors celebrated their Open House in the new Town Hall. The work that went into that celebration and the success that resulted can only be attributed to the Commission on Aging, led by Mary Kent, Municipal Agent and Chairperson, and all of her staff. They canvassed the town for donations of food and gifts. To those who donated, we also give thanks.

Educating the "Myopic" Christian
In the November 2 issue of The Voice, once again we find William Carlotti [Divine Fingerprints] seeking to educate me away from my faith. I apologize if Mr. Carlotti finds my resume concerning my search for divine fingerprints short-sighted or myopic. I am neither applying for employment or for Mr. Carlotti's approval. My submissions are targeted at a true minority of readers here in Connecticut—people who are not programmed by leftist ideology to have a knee-jerk opposition to the Judeo-Christian faith. Many people presume that all Christians are an uneducated flock of sheep, perpetually ignorant of diverse cultures, science, and the world around them. While certain Christian movements may fulfill this stereotype, I consider myself one of a number of thinking Christians who do not.

An Amazing Day for New Hartford
Thank you to the citizens of New Hartford for getting out and voting last week. It was an amazing day for New Hartford—more than 2,000 people participated in the process, a huge increase over the past, and a number that we can all be proud of.

What God Is All About
I’ve recommended this before, and now I repeat: If you have any doubts or unanswered questions about "why God allowed such and such to happen," please rush to your nearest library or book store and thoughtfully read the marvelous book called Conversations with God by Neale Donald Walsch. You will have your answers, and a totally new and joyful understanding of what God is all about and why He or She allows events to occur, along with a whole lot more regarding the whys and wherefores of this universe.
