Art Exhibits
     Simons Rock College in Great Barrington presents an exhibition of the recent works by local visual artist SARAH JACKSON from December 1 through December 16 in the Doreen Young Gallery. The 25 drawings, paintings and collages in this show capture a territory between abstraction and representation, where the figure searches for and sometimes finds a connection to the divine. Ms. Jackson’s use of color and materials, including copper, lead, slate, glass and wood, is informed by a deep interest in medieval alchemy.      Norfolk Curling Club, Golf Dr. in Norfolk host its 45th annual CALDER CUP MEN'S BONSPIEL from November 29 through December 2. Play begins on Thursday from 6:30-11:30 p.m., and continues on Friday from 7:30 a.m.-10:30 p.m. and Saturday from 7:30 a.m.-10:30 p.m. Final matches will be held on Sunday from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Rinks from throughout the Northeast will be taking part in the competition.      Canton Recreation Department sponsors BREAKFAST WITH SANTA on Saturday, December 1 with 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. seatings at the Canton Community Center, 40 Dyer Dr. in Canton. Children in pre-K through grade 3 and their parents are invited. The menu includes pancakes, sausage, juice, hot chocolate and coffee. Each child will receive a gift from Santa and be entertained by a local entertainer. Children are encouraged to bring their letters to Santa; everyone is asked to bring a non-perishable food item for the Canton Food Bank. Volunteers from the Canton/ Avon Rotary will be the cooks for the day. Cost is $3 children, $5 adults; pre-registration is required as there are only 75 tickets available for each seating.      Bakerville Library, 6 Maple Hollow Rd. in New Hartford holds its annual FESTIVAL OF TREES starting at 7 p.m. on Friday, November 30 with a tree lighting and carol sing at the Blacksmith Shop in Bakerville. Those attending will then walk down Old Blue Door Rd., which will be lit by luminaries, to the library. Children are invited to stop in at the old firehouse, where Mrs. Claus will greet them with a treat; a special mailbox will be set up for letters to Santa. A silent auction of miniature decorated trees, wreaths, gift baskets and other assorted items will be held at the library on Friday night and continues on Saturday, December 1 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. For more info call 860-482-8806.
