Bakerville Library, 6 Maple Hollow Rd. in New Hartford holds its annual FESTIVAL OF TREES starting at 7 p.m. on Friday, November 30 with a tree lighting and carol sing at the Blacksmith Shop in Bakerville. Those attending will then walk down Old Blue Door Rd., which will be lit by luminaries, to the library. Children are invited to stop in at the old firehouse, where Mrs. Claus will greet them with a treat; a special mailbox will be set up for letters to Santa. A silent auction of miniature decorated trees, wreaths, gift baskets and other assorted items will be held at the library on Friday night and continues on Saturday, December 1 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. For more info call 860-482-8806.

St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 37 Prospect St. in New Hartford hosts a HOLIDAY FAIR sponsored by the Ladies Aid Society on Saturday, December 1 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. The sale features Christmas ornaments and trimmings, knitted goods, handmade gifts, wooden crafts, baked goods, a cookie walk, plants, white elephant table, and a light lunch.

First Church of Winsted, 95 Park Place in Winsted presents NEW ENGLAND CHRISTMAS, an Old Fashioned Christmas Fair on Saturday, December 1 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. The event features a theme basket tea cup auction, attic treasures, Beanie Babies, Creative Memories, Emond's crafts, Carol's crafts, a "Kids Korner," Latasia jewelry, Netcraft, Quigley's originals, wreaths, poinsettias, and a luncheon. Free admission.

First Congregational Church, 835 Riverside Ave. in Torrington hosts their 4th annual HOLIDAY FAIR AND COOKIE WALK on Saturday, December 1 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Make your own cookie platter from our large selection of homemade cookies, including diabetic specialties. Also offered will be holiday bakery goods, homemade crafts, and raffles for a ceramic sleigh and handcrafted child's rocker. Visit our "Inspirations of Faith" table and the home decorations table featuring decorated trees, wreaths and more.

St. Francis of Assisi School, 360 Prospect St. in Torrington holds its CHRISTMAS CRAFT FAIR on Saturday, December 1 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. A variety of gifts including handmade crafts, baked goods, and gift baskets will be offered. Children will be able to have their pictures taken with Santa or shop in our special children's shopping room. Refreshments and lunch will be available along with lots of Christmas cheer. Harwinton Public Library, 80 Bentley Dr. in Harwinton holds its OPEN HOUSE AND HOLIDAY CRAFT SALE on Saturday, December 1 (snow date is December 8) from 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Door prizes include an American Girl doll, a gift basket from the Cutting Corner Hair Salon, and more. Winsted Fire Department holds its 3rd annual PENNY AUCTION on Saturday, December 1 at 10 a.m. in the cafeteria at the Pearson School, Wetmore Ave. in Winsted. Tickets are $3 per 50 tickets; the drawing will be held at noon. Admission fee of $1 will be donated to the CT Firefighter 9-11 Fund.

Friends of the Granby Public Library, 15 North Granby Rd. in Granby host a PUPPET SALE fundraiser on Saturday, December 1 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Featuring puppets and toy animals of Puppet World, you may purchase from this wonderful selection of new finger and hand puppets, dolls, soft toys and books. Noble Horizons, 17 Cobble Rd. in Salisbury holds its CHRISTMAS FAIR on Saturday, December 1 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. There will be handknits, baked goods, decorations, jams, jellies, hot lunch, and pictures with Santa.

Old Parish Church, Sheffield Village Green in Sheffield hosts its 3rd annual FESTIVAL OF TREES with a silent auction on Saturday, December 1 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. There will be custom decorated miniature and live trees, holiday quilt raffles, workshops and a country lunch. Free admission; proceeds benefit the Stone Store Restoration Fund.

The Village of Riverton offers a day of WINTER WONDERLAND activities on Saturday, December 1. There will be horse-drawn wagon rides with Santa from noon-2 p.m., and an opportunity to meet with Santa from 2-4 p.m. Northwest Regional School Chorus leads a carol sing-a-long from 4:15-5:15 p.m. The Riverton Volunteer Fire Department offers a warming chili supper beginning at 4 p.m. At dusk the town will be aglow with the traditional candlelight walk, and horse-drawn wagon rides will take place from 6-8 p.m. as carolers stroll through the village. The Riverton Theater and Friends of the Riverton Congregational Church will perform "A Christmas Carol" throughout the weekend, reservations are required; for tickets or more info call 860-738-0377.

Kent Art Association, 21 South Main St. in Kent presents a HOLIDAY ART EXHIBITION AND SILENT AUCTION plus a Book and Crafts Sale to benefit the Kent Memorial Library Endowment Fund with a reception on Saturday, December 1 from 5-8 p.m. The endowment has been established to help provide an ongoing source of funding for the library, which is operated by a nonprofit corporation for the benefit of town residents. Berkshire Botanical Garden, Routes 102 & 183 in Stockbridge presents its 11th annual HOLIDAY MARKETPLACE on Saturday and Sunday, December 1-2, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. The theme of this year's event is "An American Country Christmas." The event features a bountiful display and sale of handcrafted wreaths and holiday decorations, seasonal blooms, decorative greenery, herb products, holiday and garden gift items. Select vendors will offer a wide variety of items including cast iron garden pots and planters, woven products, paper cutting, hand-made candies, American folk art, and many other gift items. A variety of snacks will be available including a 1960s-era New York City hot dog wagon, mulled cider, popcorn, and homemade ginger molasses cookies. Chasse’ Dance Academy, 103 Main St. in Terryville holds a CRAFT FAIR on Sunday, December 2 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. There will be a cookie walk and special tables for children’s purchases, as well as a large assortment of handmade crafts and gifts. Torringford Volunteer Fire Department, 1738 East Main St. in Torrington holds its CHRISTMAS TREE AND WREATH SALE starting Monday, December 3. Hours are 5:30 p.m.-9 p.m. weekdays, and 9 a.m.-7:30 p.m. on weekends. Fresh cut Connecticut grown trees are priced at $20 and up. Beautiful 16" and 20" wreaths with a red bow will also be available.

Auxiliary Thrift Shop, 115 Spencer St. in Winsted holds a STORE-WIDE HALF PRICE SALE on December 4-8. Store hours Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and Saturday from 9:30 a.m.-noon. The Auxiliary Thrift shop would like to thank everyone who has donated to the shop as well as the patrons this past year. Proceeds from the shop benefit community health projects. The Auxiliary Thrift Shop will be closing on December 8 and will reopen on March 5, 2002.
