Ashlee Elizabeth Jacquier Scholarship Established
In loving memory of Ashlee Elizabeth Jacquier April 11, 1984 — August 31, 2001 We lost our Angel Ashlee simply because they were rushing to get to school on time. We ask you all, as a tribute to Ashlee, to slow down. Don't let life rush by you. Spend time with your loved ones and friends. And live life to its fullest, as she did.
Stop & Shop Supermarket and Oliver Wolcott Regional High School have announced the establishment of a $1,000 memorial scholarship in the name of Ashlee Jacquier. The scholarship will be given to a graduating senior in the culinary arts program. A junior in the culinary arts department, Ashlee was killed in an automobile accident on August 31, while on her way to school.
"Ashlee was a bright and caring associate, who always had a smile," stated store manager John Richardson. "As a cashier at Stop & Shop, she was always involved in the various fundraising activities, such as the Jimmy Fund and Juvenile Diabetes. She served as team captain for many fundraising campaigns and usually raised more money than anyone else in the entire store. In fact, during this year's Jimmy Fund campaign, on a per customer basis, North Canaan was the second highest among all conventional stores in the entire company! A scholarship in Ashlee's name is a wonderful tribute to a terrific person who loved to help others in need."
"We're very excited about the opportunity to establish a scholarship in Ashlee's name," said Taylor Isabelle, a good friend and co-worker at Stop & Shop, who serves on the store scholarship fund committee. "The store has already matched the initial monies collected, putting us well over our first $1,000, and we've yet to begin any of our fundraising efforts! We're also working with Ruth Simoncelli at Oliver Wolcott, who on behalf of the school's scholarship committee has also expressed interest in the establishment of the scholarship. They not only have offered to contribute to the scholarship fund, but would also like to make the Ashlee Jacquier Memorial Scholarship part of the school's annual awards program."
For more info or to make a contribution, contact John Richardson at the Stop & Shop Supermarket on Route 44 in North Canaan, phone 860-824-7990; or Ruth Simoncelli at Oliver Wolcott Regional High School, phone 860-496-5343.
Ashlee's Auction Cry
From the family and loved ones of Ashlee Jacquier, North Canaan
Ashlee was an integral part of our family’s auction business. She was killed suddenly in an auto accident. Her father, Phil Jacquier, wrote this poem for the funeral.
Ladies, gentlemen, family, friends and neighbors, thank you for being here today. Let me tell you the terms and conditions of this family. There are no guarantees or warrantees on what life will bring. All final respects and good-byes will be made in full today.
Let us begin our final auction cry for Our Angel Ashlee.
Ashlee, you're one. Look what you've added to our family; you're so much fun.
You're two, and a strawberry blonde with a big beautiful smile. The best of both Mom and Dad have come out in you.
Now three; look how proud you've made our family.
I bid four; look at our little angel Ashlee, whom everyone adores.
Say five; it's ABCs, 1-2-3's, and trying to keep up with your brothers.
Give me six; you're a big sister now. You can pass on all your tricks.
There's seven; we now know Our Angel was sent from Heaven.
Ashlee, now that you're eight, you're Dad's little helper; you're so great.
Let's hear nine. Where goes the time?
Now you're ten; you and Ma are off shopping again.
Sis, you've turned eleven, and it's your bright and great advice that we think has made us all so tight.
Here you are at twelve; who's going to be the top bidder— Pa Gramps or Dad—on the Rock Cookies from Great Grams' recipe?
Here's thirteen, and what a young lady you've turned out to be.
On bid fourteen, where are you, Ashlee? On the phone again, and I bet it's not for me.
Fifteen, the high school years. Ashlee, you're nowhere near; you're here or there and everywhere with all your friends.
Now you've turned "Sweet Sixteen," just as sweet as can be.
Seventeen. Oh, Lord, you have taken our Angel Ashlee away from our whole family.
Going once, going twice, sold to God for Eternity …
