Open Letter to the Town of Kent
Cynthia F. Johnson is the Kent Memorial Library Director. 'Tis the season to be thankful, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you, the townspeople of Kent, for your unending support and help in making my first year as Library Director a joy. Every day I look forward to the new and unexpected ideas that spring forth from the patrons of the library. It is your enthusiasm, your interests and your engaging conversation that have helped me realize my vision of Kent Memorial Library as truly being the "heart of the community." You have allowed me, an outsider, to feel at home, making the library a home to you and sharing our common interests within the community. Whether it is "the talk of the town" over a cup of Harney's tea on a Tuesday, a group of teens planning an event, a book discussion group forming, a book signing by a local author, an exhibit of children's artistic talents, a poetry reading, finding just the book you were looking for or requesting it through interlibrary loan, researching a topic through the State databases, seeing a magic show, knowing that the bestsellers are waiting for you, presenting an exhibition of local history or talent, or tallying up those pages read in a read-a-thon, you have inspired new activities and services, and I am very pleased to have been able to make them a reality for this community this past year. I wish you a very happy and healthy holiday season and a joyous and peaceful new year. Best wishes. |
