Art Exhibits at Canton Library
“Headwaters,” watermedia on paper by Dana Schreiber.
Presently on display in the case at the Canton Public Library, 40 Dyer Ave. in Collinsville are works by Collinsville artist Dana Schreiber. Mr. Schreiber is well known in the area and has exhibited and given workshops nationally. Dana likes to focus the viewer's attention on the light and surface quality of the paint. His energized paint strokes are juicy and fluid and contrast the depth of translucent passages with opaque forms. The subjects being shown are based on flowing water in a natural setting. One is able to meditate and get caught up with the rich buttery feel of the oils and sparkle in his watercolors. Slivers of light dance across the forms and pull you into a world of contemplation of the tumbling water.
Also on exhibition at the library is the work of West Hartford artist Hannah Libman. Her work demands close inspection as the viewer discovers the intricacies of what turns out to be collage. Her work features the "slice of life" theme and reflects the artist's observation of people, how they act and what they do. She is also moved by the world around her and finds great satisfaction in interpreting the landscapes and places she has visited. Hannah works in a variety of media, but uses collage predominantly. She is inspired by the wealth of possibilities that can be achieved with textures, forms and shapes—and an endless supply of diverse materials. She is widely exhibited in Connecticut and Massachusetts and has demonstrated and taught collage widely. Ms. Libman is represented in private and corporate collections in this country and abroad.
These artists will remain on exhibit through the month of January. The Canton Public Library is open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m.-8 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and Sundays from 1-4 p.m.; for more info call 860-693-5800.
