Ben and Rachel Luxon at Norfolk Library

On Saturday, January 26 at 4 p.m., the Norfolk Library welcomes father and daughter Ben and Rachel Luxon, accompanied by pianist and Yale graduate Elaine Toscanini. Enjoy a tour through the music of the late 19th and early 20th century—a time when music became available in an unprecedented way to the masses. The "parlor songbook" was a common possession, and great operatic and oratorio arias were published cheek by jowl with popular and music hall songs and recitations.

Benjamin Luxon is one of the world's top international singers; for nearly 30 years he performed at many of the world's leading opera houses, including the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, La Scala Milan, and the Metropolitan Opera House. In 1986, he was made a Commander of the British Empire in recognition of his service to British music. Rachel Luxon is a graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music and a Brady scholar. She performs regularly on concert and oratorio platforms throughout the UK at venues such as The Barbican, St. David's Hall, and Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.

This event is free and open to the public. Reservations are requested, and may be made by calling the library at 860-542-5075.
