Christmas Soup 2001, the seventh annual benefit for the Community Kitchen of Torrington held on December 1 at Center for the Dance Arts, was a huge success with $1,325.28 raised to help feed area needy. In addition to the raising of funds, the event was a celebration of Christ Jesus with time of prayer and special music honoring Him. The total marks the largest amount raised yet by the event, which includes performances by area musicians, raffles and a silent auction with prizes donated by area merchants. More ... About two months ago, I informed you of what I thought was just mismanagement or an oversight in the renovation process at Torrington High School, which had resulted in a significant waste of taxpayer money [Mysterious Sale at Torrington High, November 23]. Was that when the pack sent up a mighty chorus of unearthly response in praise of the lunar glory? Is there an affinity there—a special kinship with the lord of the northern forests? More ... It is easy to say thank you, but it is harder to convey the deep and heartfelt gratitude the staff and board of directors of the Torrington Area Youth Service Bureau feel to the individuals, organizations, businesses, banks, schools, and churches for the generosity that was shown to our needy children during the Christmas holidays.
