Art for Valentine's Day
Hand-painted silk scarves by Rosalie Lee will be featured in the Drezner Gallery at Farmington Valley Arts Center
On Saturday, February 9 from 11 a.m.-5 p.m., visit Avon shops for a fine selection of Valentine's Day gifts that will outlast chocolates and roses. Three Avon galleries in close proximity—the Fisher Gallery and Esther B. Drezner Visitor's Gallery at Farmington Valley Arts Center, as well as Living Traditions Gallery—offer a one-day shopping event designed to make it easy for shoppers to select perfect gifts for those they love. All three galleries will feature a wide array of works by one or more artists in addition to their usual selection of high-quality works in all price ranges, and extra assistance will be available for shoppers who need advice on selecting art as a Valentine's Day gift.
The Fisher Gallery will feature an enhanced selection of jewelry hand-crafted by Toronto artist Dushka Vujovic, California-based Artafacts and Brooklyn-based artist Erica Rosenfeld—three diverse artists whose unique necklaces, earrings, bracelets, pins, cabochon hearts and other items are available in a variety of styles and prices. Rosenfeld will be on hand all day to answer questions about her antique beaded glass jewelry and to assist shoppers with selection.
In the Esther B. Drezner Visitor's Gallery, visitors will be treated to a large selection of hand-painted silk scarves by Farmington Valley Arts Center resident studio artist Rosalia Lee. Lee will be on hand from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and from 3:30-5 p.m. to greet shoppers, assist with selection and discuss techniques used to create these one-of-a-kind wearables.
Living Traditions Gallery will highlight the small, personal "story quilts" created by artist Lisa M. Corson of Bristol. Corson's photo quilts, wall hangings, pillows, bags and other quilted gifts feature such touches as buttons, keys, jewelry, tokens, charms and other ephemera that make them evocative conversation pieces.
Specially selected volunteers and staff at the Farmington Valley Arts Center's two galleries will be on hand throughout the day to serve as "personal shoppers" and to model jewelry and scarves on request. They will assist anyone who needs a bit of advice on selecting the perfect present and will package purchases in gift boxes so that you'll be prepared well in advance for Valentine's Day.
