: Barkhamsted School hosts Bingo in the gym and café at 6:30 p.m.

Saturday, February 9

THOMASTON

: Thomaston Methodist Church sponsors a Meatloaf Dinner in Wesley Hall from 5-7 p.m. Menu includes meatloaf, twice baked beans, green beans, carrots, bread sticks, beverage (coffee, tea and juice), and an assortment of desserts. Cost is $7 adults, $5 seniors, $4 children (under 12).

TORRINGTON

: Concordia Lodge #20 Sons of Italy, 34 Center St. holds early bingo at 1 p.m. and regular bingo at 2 p.m., with progressive jackpot and refreshments. Doors open at 11 a.m.

 

Sunday, February 10

NORFOLK

: Church of Christ Congregational hosts the annual Deac Nash Pie Fest in the Stone Chapel from 1-4 p.m. In honor of September 11, this will be a time of fellowship and remembrance. Free admission; there will be face painting for the kids. Bring a friend, bring a pie, bring a smile.

SALISBURY

: In conjunction with the annual Ski Jumps, Salisbury Volunteer Ambulance Service and Salisbury Lions Club serve a Pancake Breakfast from 7:30-11:30 a.m. at the Ambulance Headquarters on Route 41 (across from the White Hart Inn). Menu includes pancakes, eggs, sausages, orange juice, coffee, tea and milk. Cost is $5 adults, $3 children (under 12). There will also be a collection box for unwanted eyeglasses that will be sent to a clearinghouse where they will be polished and sorted by prescription, and then sent to Third World nations for distribution.

TORRINGTON

: In recognition of the 92nd year of Scouting, Boy Scout Troop 4 celebrates Scout Sunday with a Pancake and Egg Breakfast at the First United Methodist Church, 21 Fern Dr.; serving hours are 7:30-9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.-noon. Troop 4 will also be celebrating its own 85 continuous years of providing an educational program for boys and young adults to build character, to train in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and to develop personal fitness. The public is invited.

TORRINGTON

: Dick’s Restaurant Scholarship Committee holds its annual Scholarship Clambake beginning at 11 a.m. at the Sons of Italy Hall on Center St. Food ranging from sausage and egg sandwiches to hamburgs and steak sandwiches, steamed clams and a full buffet dinner will be served. Special door prizes will be awarded throughout the day. Tickets are available at Dick’s Restaurant, 26 East Main St. in Torrington.

WINCHESTER CENTER

: Baked Chicken Dinner served family style at Winchester Grange Hall on the Green from noon-1 p.m. The public is invited; admission is $6 adults, $3 children (12 and under). Reservations required; call 379-3557 or 626-0326. Take-out dinners are also available.

 

Monday, February 11

COLEBROOK

: Senior Center activities–Rubber Stamping Club hosts Ken Mitchell, who will demonstrate rubber stamping on votive candles and techniques for making Valentine cards at 10 a.m.; lunch at noon (call 738-9521 by noon Friday for reservations); popcorn and a movie "Run Away Bride" starring Richard Gere and Julia Roberts at 1 p.m.

LITCHFIELD

: Community Center adult activities–yoga (new participants welcome) at 11 a.m.; movie "Pearl Harbor" at 1 p.m.; Weight Watchers meeting at 5 p.m.; Soccer Club meeting at 7 p.m.; chess for all ages and levels from 7-9 p.m.

WINSTED

: Town of Winchester Planning and Zoning Commission meets at 7 p.m. in the P. Francis Hicks Room on the 2nd floor of Town Hall. New business includes a Land Use Law Overview with Steven Byrne, Esq., Land Use Attorney with the CT Federation of Planning and Zoning Agencies. : Community Center adult activities–painting with friends (all artists welcome) from 9 a.m.-noon; Crafters Corner meets from 10 a.m.-noon; special "Hearts for You" craft workshop for seniors with Betty Reisback ($2, sign up by calling 567-8302 by February 8) from 11 a.m.-noon; Senior bingo from 1-3 p.m.; Town Beautification Commission meets at 4 p.m.

SIMSBURY

: Simsbury Public Library, 725 Hopmeadow St. (Route 10) hosts "The Road to College" with speaker Cori Nevers, Director of Admissions at Sacred Heart University in the Program Room from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Intended for high school students and their parents, the program will present the college selection process, the college selection and application timeline, questions to ask admissions counselors, and more. WEST HARTFORD

: The Division of Accelerated Degree Programs at Teikyo Post University invites prospective students to an Open House at Northwest Catholic High School, 29 Wampanoag Dr. (off North Main St.) from 5-7:30 p.m. The session is informal, so people can feel free to drop by any time during the scheduled hours. Those who have completed some coursework should bring transcript copies to receive a preliminary transfer credit evaluation. Students can complete a bachelors or associates degree in Business Management or Marketing entirely at the West Hartford site. Additional courses are offered toward degrees in Management Information Systems, Accounting, Human Services, Integrated Business, Finance, Legal Assistant, Psychology and General Studies; however, students take the remaining courses for these programs at the main campus in Waterbury. : The staff of Kent Memorial Library, 32 North Main St. invites the community to attend a little celebration to "Love Your Library" from 5-6 p.m. Refreshments are not required; refreshments will be served.

: A Community Clothing Swap will be held at North Congregational Church from 1:30-4:30 p.m. Bring your gently used clothing and shoes to trade for items swapped in by others. GREAT BARRINGTON

: Simon’s Rock College hosts a Discovery Day open house at 9:30 a.m. for prospective students and their families, who are invited to tour the campus and attend a class. Free; for reservations call 413-528-7355.

NORFOLK

: Norfolk Lions Club sponsors a Spaghetti Dinner from 5-7:30 p.m. at the Botelle Elementary School on Route 44. Chairman John Funchion welcomes townspeople to this event as a signal of support for the vigilant ambulance corps. Tickets are $6 adults, $3 children, and may be purchased from any member of the Lions Club or at the door.
