Mark Goldstein to Perform on the Marimba Lumina
     As a part of the South Berkshire Concert Series at Simon's Rock College in Great Barrington, composer and performer Mark Goldstein will play his invented electro-acoustic instrument, the Marimba Lumina, on Saturday, February 16 at 9 p.m. in the college's Kellogg Music Center. He will be accompanied by John Myers, faculty member in music, on guitar.

Boxing Club Has New Home in Torrington
     The Northwest Amateur Boxing Club is proud to announce (finally) that it now has a training facility, located at 45 Water St. in Torrington. This comes after a long search for a downtown site suitable for a program involving training both boys and girls in the sport of amateur boxing and physical fitness.

Movie Review — Monster’s Ball
     Marc Forster's hard look at the effects of brutality comes forth with poignancy in the scarring, symbiotic Southern drama Monster's Ball. There are no supernatural or horror elements in this Georgia-set film, which allows Billy Bob Thornton and Halle Berry to act in finely measured ways as their characters are oddly linked through a condemned man. And drawings of people in their lives help paint a picture of despair and finally a shred of hope.

David Darling and Friends in Concert
     Veteran cellist, composer and international recording artist David Darling has been nominated for a Grammy award for his recent "Hearts of Space" recording Cello Blue in the category of Best New Age Album. A celebration of his music and dedication to his beloved organization, Music for People, will be held on Saturday, February 23 at 8 p.m. at Litchfield Intermediate School on Plumb Hill Road in Litchfield. Diverse instruments such as the cello, mountain dulcimer, piano and world percussion will help music weave its magic as David is joined by fellow Music for People graduates Thomasina, Peter Hawes, Randy Brody and Monica Robelotto.

Mountain Dulcimer Lessons for Beginners
     Let early spring bring some music-making into your life! Treat yourself to a ten-week session of mountain dulcimer lessons, suitable for complete beginners. This is a very easy-to-learn instrument with a lovely harp-like quality. It will not take long to hear wonderful-sounding results. Classes will be held at Folkcraft Studios in Winsted starting on Tuesday, February 26 at 7:45 p.m. The series of hour-long classes will be taught by Dallas Cline, and the course is sponsored by the Northwest Corner Arts Center.

     On Friday, February 15 at 7:30 p.m., 59 Barber Street in Torrington presents a performance by songwriter Eddy Lawrence. Opening for Lawrence will be 59 Barber Street's house band, the Love at Work Band.
