Understanding the John Birch Society

By Charles D. Smith, Thomaston

I have read William Barrante's letters in the past, and all were carefully thought out and well done. But in his January 25 letter [The Constitution Is Still Alive] he mistakenly tries to give the John Birch Society a bad name, either from what he has heard secondhand in error, or from just plain ignorance of the Society.

Our motto is "Less Government, More Responsibility, And with God's Help—A Better World." We are a uniquely 110% pro-American group of people who care deeply about our country—where our roots are planted, where we are now, and where we ultimately will go if the global elitists are given free rein to trample underfoot our cherished freedoms and Constitutional republic. You will not find a more patriotic group of people. All one has to do is visit the website at <www.jbs.org> to see facts about our group that even a lawyer could gain knowledge from!

Our monthly bulletins and extensive video library help citizens make informed choices on both long-term political thought as well as pending legislation that could either threaten and/or undermine our basic freedoms. To be instructed and informed on our Constitutional rights in the manner of the John Birch Society could not be called "wearing blinders" in any sense of the word. To let career politicians do whatever they choose, under the guise of believing you are fully protected by Constitutional law, is truly to be wearing blinders.

Seneca (4 BC-65 AD) said, "There is nothing which persevering effort and unceasing and diligent care cannot overcome." I wish you—as well as anyone else who looks at our website or other materials—a new understanding of the situation.
