The 2001 annual Corporator Meeting for the Winsted Health Center Foundation will take place on February 24, 2002. There has been no satisfactory explanation for this delay. The bylaws are very clear about requiring that the list of nominations be included with the notice of meeting. This notice must be mailed first class at least ten days before the meeting. As of this writing, the Board of Trustees has not publicly acknowledged any problems their previous mistake regarding these requirements has caused. More ... On Thursday, February 21, Winsted Elks Lodge #844 will be celebrating "Old Timers" night with its traditional roast beef dinner beginning at 6 p.m., followed by an initiation of new members presented by the lodge's past presidents (Past Exalted Rulers). More ... I am one of nine members of the Winchester Board of Education. At our regular monthly meeting on January 8, a new unproven program, claiming to improve education through the arts, was presented to us for our approval. The request was for the board to sign an agreement, that night, with the State of Connecticut to support a long-range plan that required local funding. The Higher Order Thinking Schools Program—HOT Schools, for short—is a program sponsored by the Connecticut Commission on the Arts, which would provide $240,000 over six years. More ... |
