There may be separation of Church and State, but there is much in common between the clergy and the office of President of the United States. They both speak from the bully pulpit. They are both financially provided for by other people. They both live in houses they never bought themselves. You are cautious, even a bit scared. You open the security latch equipment and peer through the safety chain to see if the caller is friend or foe. If a tiny hole has been installed in your solid front door, you may get a glimpse of the caller that way. In any case, you live in fear today. More ... The makers of Lucky Charms cereal have launched a deceptive advertising campaign against the youth of America. While the cereal is advertised as being full of marshmallow goodness, in reality it is an abundance of oat cereal. Furthermore, they advertise that a free watch is enclosed in the box. Upon discovering the watch, I was deeply saddened and depressed to find that it was far to small for any teenager to wear; apparently it is only meant for small children. This, however, was not indicated on the box. More ... Not that many have the opportunity to view a thousand dollar bill, but you might take notice the next time one is in your hands (like that's likely to happen!) that the back of the note features the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center. More ... It has been reported that at least one renter of a car from Acme Rent-a-Car is really angry. It seems that Acme, using satellite technology, alleges it clocked that renter at speeds exceeding 79 mph for at least two consecutive minutes. They allege the renter did this three times and, as the rental contract warns, they billed his bank account $150 for each incident. It hasn't been reported that he claims to be innocent; he may just be mad that he got caught. More ... Last year, like the year before, I volunteered with the Litchfield County chapter of the Special Olympics. Each Friday I would go to the Winsted YMCA and swim for an hour with a mentally challenged individual. I found that it was challenging for me, yet it was also the most rewarding experience I have ever had. More ...
