Nancy Tucker at University of Hartford
Nancy Tucker, an enthusiastic, accomplished and delightful entertainer, will appear at the University of Hartford on Saturday, March 16 at 7:30 p.m. in the Wilde Auditorium, located in the Harry Jack Gray Center. This concert is part of the 2002 "Music for a Change" benefit concert series; proceeds will benefit Covenant to Care, an interfaith nonprofit organization that connects child-care workers with faith communities throughout Connecticut to provide programs, goods and services to abused, neglected and impoverished children and their families.
Since graduating from the University of Hartford in 1976 with a dual major in fine arts and biology, Tucker has explored and succeeded in many fields. She is an accomplished singer-songwriter, acoustic guitarist, comedian, actor, children's performer and one-woman show. Tucker has been performing and writing professionally for 25 years and has released seven of her own CDs. Her love of music began at age five when she watched her idol, Victor Borge, perform on TV; she knew then that she wanted to be a performer. "[Borge] plays with words the way that I do," she said. During the 1960s, Tucker taught herself to play the guitar by listening to folk music on the radio.

A skilled and sometimes astonishing guitarist, Nancy is a songwriter and composer of unusual insight and great musicianship, with a performance style that moves from riotously funny, almost slapstick humor to sensitive, probing ballads. Tucker is one of the very few performers on the road today that I enjoy seeing over and over again," said Bruce Pratt of the Hartland Family Folk Festival.
