Thanks to Read Aloud Participants By Pamela F. Colavecchio

On behalf of the Batcheller School community, I would like to recognize and thank the eighteen readers who took time from their businesses, community organizations and individual schedules to personally demonstrate their commitment to being lifelong learners. They participated in the 12th annual Northwest Connecticut Read Aloud 2002, sponsored by the Northwest CT Chamber of Commerce and Howmet-Alcoa Corporation of Winsted.

The readers were: Christine Polowy, Mark Greenier and Terry Roman of Howmet; Mary Lee Bulat of Beardsley and Memorial Library; Alan Colavecchio of Colavecchio Design; Rose Rovero of Northwest Community Bank; Don Campi of Prudential Northwest Realty; Patty Rocco of Getting Off; Beverly Chrzan and Dana Forchette of Northwestern CT Community College; Amanda Schaefer of Adams House Healthcare; Melissa Lloyd of Vibra-Conn, Inc.; Robin Bardino of Jesse’s; Cheryl DePaoli of the Northwest Regional School System; Deirdre DiCara of the Northwest Area Girl Scouts and the Winsted Health Center Foundation; librarian Elizabeth Lavernoich; teacher Grace Jones; and Alexandra Mathiasen.

Enthusiastic comments by the students filled the air long after the Read Aloud concluded. They were interested not only in hearing the story that was read, but were also excited to learn more about the readers. Each of the books selected for the Read Aloud can be enjoyed forever by the students, as they were donated to the individual classroom libraries by the Chamber of Commerce.

Ms. Colavecchio is Reading and Language Arts Consultant at Batcheller School in Winsted.
