Winchester Taxpayers Association Opposes Town Budget
The Winchester Taxpayers Association held its annual meeting on Wednesday, April 17 at the Log House Restaurant. The Association re-elected Bob Bixby as president, Leesa Ringstad as vice president, Carol Crossman as treasurer, and John Gauger, Jr. as secretary. The Association voted unanimously to oppose the town budget. The budget, as presented, will mean a significant increase in taxes, and it places an unfair burden on the taxpayers. The past year has seen a number of business leave the community, which has meant the direct loss of jobs and an economic slowdown for other businesses. The opinion of the WTA is that taxes are too high in Winsted and that the budget, as proposed, is not responsive to the current local economic situation. The Association is prepared to present its ideas at the annual town budget meeting to be held on Monday, May 6 at 7 p.m. at the Gilbert School. |
