Bill Morrissey at University of Hartford
     Critically acclaimed folk artist Bill Morrissey, who recently released his first album of original songs in five years, will perform at the University of Hartford on Friday, May 3 as part of the Music for a Change benefit concert series. The show will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Wilde Auditorium in the Harry Jack Gray Center at the University of Hartford, 200 Bloomfield Ave. in West Hartford. Opening the show will be Liz Queler, who has been called "one of the most emotionally evocative new voices in folk pop" by the Boston Herald. Proceeds from the concert will benefit Nutmeg Big Brothers/ Big Sisters.

Los Ciegos Del Barrio at NCCC
     Los Ciegos Del Barrio are five Latino-American musicians from New York City who do not see as well as most of us (they are visually impaired), but who hear better than all of us. From the fiery salsa and merengue to the more romantic bachata, the band handles all the traditional rhythms and modern dance styles with an energetic ease. Los Ciegos has performed at The Village Gate in New York City and has toured Russia and the Dominican Republic under the auspices of Project Troubador.

Cultural Tapestries Project at Colebrook School
     Artists representing the traditions of West Africa, Cambodia, Eastern Europe and Brazil are visiting the Colebrook School this spring in an exciting new program sponsored by the CT Commission on the Arts. The Cultural Tapestries Project has been designed to introduce children in rural schools to diverse cultural experiences. Writers will work with performing artists to help third and fourth grade students better understand cultural similarities and differences and to enhance the students' writing skills.

Earth Mass at Trinity Episcopal Church
     The eerie cry of wolves and the lament of whales intermingle with the sax, congas, keyboard and the pristine sound of a children’s choir. A troupe of dancers in swirling earth-colored dresses move in unison surrounded by singers and musicians, leading long lines of children through the aisles of the golden sanctuary.

City of Angels at Northwestern Regional
     Northwestern Theatre presents the musical comedy City of Angels on Friday and Saturday, May 3-4 at 8 p.m.; and Sunday, May 5 at 2 p.m. at Northwestern Regional #7 School on Battistoni Dr. in Winsted. Set in Hollywood in the 1940s, the play features book by Larry Gelbart, music by Cy Coleman and lyrics by David Zippel. The story follows Stine, a fiction writer who is trying to adapt his own detective novel into a screenplay, the characters of which come to life onstage.
