My Church

No mortal being, no special interest groups (pro-choice, same-sex marriage, etc.), and no amount of anti-Catholic media frenzy will bring down my church nor cause me to question my faith.

Certainly, I find the behavior of a small minority of our priests appalling. And I feel betrayed by the lack of accountability of the hierarchy which protected these priests at the expense of the victims—and, indeed, at the expense of all of us.

But this will not diminish my faith; instead, it will strengthen my resolve to support those who truly honor the Lord through their commitment to Him. I know two of these priests: Fr. Stephen Sledesky and Fr. Gerard Masters of my parish, St. Peter's, and I am thankful for their presence and for the new life they have brought into my church!

We must exercise caution that we are not drawn into an abyss reminiscent of the Joseph McCarthy era, when suspicion and doubt consumed many.

I love my God and His church and will continue to render unto Him all that is His. God bless.
