Thank You to Dan Rather

I would like to publicly express my appreciation to anchorman Dan Rather for an acknowledgment that he made on his evening news program on April 29. While many other newscasters are having a field day with the events that are unfolding in the Roman Catholic Church, he made a point of saying that, even with all that has been disclosed lately, less than one-half of one percent of all priests are involved in these scandals. Also, he went on to say that these horrific events that are only now coming to light have actually occurred over a period of 20-30 years, with a few immoral men affecting so many. Even one such event is one too many, but unfortunately this abhorrent crime of pedophilia indirectly affects all churches, synagogues and public institutions.

I was so pleased to hear this news anchor put these events in perspective and not react like the cheap tabloids that tend to sensationalize and exploit. So once again, Mr. Rather, on behalf of people who love the Roman Catholic Church and the other 99.5% of holy priests, thank you!
