The deadly confrontation in the Middle East demands the concern of all world inhabitants, for it has the potential to escalate into a world-shattering holocaust. Because of the role of the U.S. as a major participant in the quest to peacefully resolve the ever-growing crisis, it is important that Secretary of State Colin Powell accept his disappointments as temporary setbacks, and pursue his initial efforts to bring peace to the Middle East. I still wonder about the man who thumped a cantaloupe with his finger while holding it up to his ear—what was he listening for?
