Vote NO in Region 10 Referendum
After the Region 10 Board of Education’s proposal for a school for grades 4-6 went down to a referendum defeat last year, they now request approval for a new K-5 school and a high school renovation scheme. Current debt owed to eliminate "overcrowding" ends in 2012. They now state that the reconfigured rooms are "overcrowded" again, and plan to bury taxpayers with additional debt until 2025. Knowing about institutional "creative financing," I believe their figure of $47,458,000 for completion of the project in reality should be above $70,000,000. My understanding is that although the new K-5 school is being designed to house 500 students, the current plan is to transfer just 150 students there. So why do we need to build a school that is three times as large as we need? I feel that the voters and taxpayers of Region 10 are woefully uninformed. Shamelessly, the Board of Education repeats its mantra, "For the children," assuming their drumbeat will ignite the PTA and soccer moms to march! I'm voting NO to building classrooms for phantom children in the referendum to be held at Burlington and Harwinton Town Halls on Thursday, June 6 from 6 a.m.-8 p.m. Remember that if a significant number of voters stay home, we will allow a small number of people to make an important decision about our future. P.S. — Bonding is the slickest scheme to pass debt to the next generation. |
