Your homes, lake cottages, cars, trucks and businesses in the Town of Winchester will be seriously at risk of higher taxes with the proposed budget.

Do you need a new police and fire complex built at the old contaminated Lambert-Kay building? How many millions will this cost us? No one knows where the money is going to come from; if this budget passes, we will be a step closer to paying for it. Answer: NO. We have four firehouses already (Elm Street Firehouse, Prospect Firehouse, Holabird Avenue Firehouse and Winchester Center Firehouse)—that's two firehouses on each side of the river. Crime has gone down in our community. Do you need a new police station with the firehouse, too? Answer: NO. If anything, the police station should be renovated to meet standards.

Do you need a new dog pound located next to our water supply? Answer: NO.

Last year's education budget increased 8%, this year 6.5%. Do we need these substantial continuing increases? Answer: NO. (More money does not equal higher test scores.) Winsted's CMT test scores rank in the bottom half of all Connecticut towns. Yet we spend close to $12,000 per student a year.

Does your money grow on trees? Answer: NO. Send a message, Winsted, on Saturday, June 1 from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. at Pearson School.

Thank you!
