The Kent Memorial Library will host its first annual tour of distinguished contemporary and historic houses on Saturday, June 15. This unusual hometown tour in one of northwest Connecticut's best-known small towns will take visitors to five historic and contemporary houses, as well as to the book-lined "ivory tower" of a much-published writer and to the working studio of one of the region's most sought-after contemporary sculptors. On May 23, students at the Easter Seals Child Development Center in Meriden were visited by members of the Nutmeg Ballet of Torrington under the direction of Sharon Dante. The 125 children were entertained with ballets of Little Red Riding Hood, Goldilocks and the Three Bears and Cinderella. The Nutmeg Ballet has been doing shows at the center over the past couple of years, including a performance of The Nutcracker during the holidays in 2000. More ... The 4th annual Riverton Festival is set for Saturday, June 15 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. throughout the historic village along the Farmington River. The events planned for this year include a car show, children's activities, and artist and crafter booths and displays by local community organizations. More ... The Salisbury Association was founded a century ago for the purpose of furthering the interests of the town, so the organization decided the best way to mark its 100th anniversary would be to celebrate a century of the Town of Salisbury. So that's what a dozen members of the Centennial Committee have been planning under the leadership of Association board member Roberta "Bobbie" Olsen. More ... The public is invited to a presentation by the Lydia Whitney Foundation, Inc. of the classical music score, Waterloo's Bridje, to the Connecticut Historical Society, One Elizabeth St. in Hartford on Sunday, June 16 from 1-2 p.m. Composed by Russian Guennady Alexseevich Vavilov, popularly known as the world's greatest living classical composer, the musical score shows notation as it was learned in musical schools in Moscow and St. Petersburg in the past century.
